Job summary

The Medical College of Wisconsin is seeking a Solutions Architect to lead CIBMTR's data platform modernization and lakehouse migration. You will shape end-to-end reference architectures, govern AI/ML patterns, and collaborate with vendors and IT leaders to ensure secure, scalable solutions.

You will mentor a growing analytics team, align cloud infrastructure with privacy requirements (HIPAA/PHI), and contribute to a multi-year roadmap that balances modernization with stability and cost

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Data Engineering, or a related field.
• 8+ years in data engineering, software/data architecture, or related discipline; 3+ years in solutions/enterprise architect capacity.
• Master’s degree preferred; healthcare/clinical research experience a plus; familiarity with clinical/research registries.

Responsibilities

• Define target-state architecture and end-to-end reference architecture for modernized data estate.
• Design and optimize hyperscaler cloud environment (AWS) for cost, performance, security, and simplicity.
• Lead lakehouse migration from SQL data warehouse to lakehouse, including ingestion pipelines and data formats.
• Establish reference architectures, patterns, and guardrails for agentic AI/ML; ensure security and regulatory alignment.
• Architect centralized metadata management, data cataloging, lineage, and semantic layer for AI-ready data products.
• Provide governance through architecture reviews; assess risk, security, and compliance; mentor engineers and analysts.
