Job summary

Octopus Energy is seeking a Senior Data Engineer to join the Flexibility team in London. You will establish the team’s data capability, lead the data engineering direction, and represent the group to the cross-team data community.

You’ll upskill backend engineers, build greenfield data systems in a new AWS environment, and deliver a robust data platform that enables global scalability and trusted data across projects.

Qualifications

• Strong SQL, Python and AWS data stack experience.
• Experience building scalable databases and APIs (Django, FastAPI).
• Experience with Kubernetes, Docker, Spark and monitoring tools (DataDog, Grafana, Prometheus).
• Experience with Airflow and dbt is a plus.
• Energy domain knowledge is desirable.

Responsibilities

• Establish the data capability for the flexibility team and define its technical direction.
• Upskill data-literate backend engineers and act as data expert across projects.
• Build greenfield data systems in a new AWS environment.
• Provide a robust data processing and warehousing layer for future projects.
• Improve data applications for long-term global scalability and reliability.
• Interface with the data warehouse built on Databricks.
• Lead data platform improvements to boost cross-team capabilities.
