Job summary

CVS Health seeks a Senior Data Engineer to join our hybrid team in the Greater Boston area. You will design and maintain scalable data pipelines for terabyte to petabyte healthcare data, enabling data-driven decisions across CVS lines of business.

You will work with GCP tools like Dataflow, Pub/Sub, and BigQuery, build analytical models, and ensure governance and security. Collaboration in an agile environment is essential.

Qualifications

• 3+ years with SQL and data modeling
• 3+ years with Python or similar scripting language
• 3+ years with data warehouses and infrastructure components
• 3+ years with ETL/ELT and high-volume data pipelines
• 3+ years with reporting/analytic tools
• 3+ years with query optimization and data structures
• 3+ years with Big data and cloud architecture
• 3+ years with Google Cloud Platform (GCP) services such as BigQuery/Dataflow/Pub/Sub
• 3+ years with containerized apps on GKE/Cloud Run
• 1+ year with stakeholder engagement and managing deliverables

Responsibilities

• Architect and develop robust ETL/ELT pipelines using Cloud Dataflow, Airflow, and Pub/Sub.
• Leverage BigQuery as the central data warehouse and integrate with other GCP services.
• Build and optimize analytical data models in BigQuery.
• Implement partitioning, clustering, and materialized views for performance and cost efficiency.
• Ensure data governance, IAM, and security best practices.
• Develop integrations with external systems using APIs or flat files.
• Use Dataflow or Python/Java services on Cloud Functions/Cloud Run for transformations.
• Create CI/CD pipelines with Cloud Build, GitHub Actions, or Jenkins.
• Set up observability via Cloud Monitoring and Cloud Logging.
• Lead architectural decisions and mentor junior engineers.
• Promote code quality, cost optimization, and data security in a GCP environment.
• Drive data democratization with reusable datasets and data catalogs via Dataplex or Data Catalog.
