Job summary

Bristol Myers Squibb in Tampa, FL is seeking a Senior Data Engineer — Translational Data Products to own data products end to end. You will design, build, test, and maintain ETL pipelines on Databricks and AWS, unlocking data access and ensuring governance and AI-readiness for translational science teams.

Collaborate with data scientists, ML engineers and stakeholders to develop robust data maps, satisfy validation requirements, and support GenAI deployments with CI/CD and infrastructure-as-code.

Qualifications

• Requires a Bachelor's degree in a relevant discipline along with 4+ yrs of relevant work experience.
• Demonstrated experience building production data pipelines (ETL/ELT) at scale.
• Very strong SQL — complex joins, window functions, performance tuning, and the judgment to know when a query result is wrong.
• Python for data engineering and data science.
• AWS experience — S3, IAM, Glue, Lambda, ECS and Fargate.
• Containerized service deployment — package a Python service in Docker and ship it to ECS/Fargate through infrastructure as code (AWS CDK / CloudFormation) and a GitHub Actions pipeline, with health checks, secrets from parameter store, and SSO / OIDC authentication.
• CloudOps / DevOps practice monitoring, alerting, incident response.
• GitHub fluency branching, pull requests, code review, and GitHub Actions.
• Test-driven and validation-driven — unit tests that run in the pipeline, plus regression and reconciliation checks that run against the platform.
• Command-line fluency — git, shell, the AWS and Databricks CLIs, and daily hands-on use of Claude Code to drive a task end to end.
• Life sciences data — hands-on experience with clinical, molecular and assay data patient-level clinical data and lab results, molecular data, and assay output.
• Ability to engage with the science and translate questions into data models and mappings.

Responsibilities

• Build, operate and own data products. Design, build, test, and maintain ETL/data normalization pipelines on Databricks and AWS.
• Unlock data access by coordinating with data owners and governance partners to bring new sources under governance.
• Pursue business impact by translating high-value questions into robust data map designs and targets.
• Translate business questions into data models and SQL queries with clear data constraints.
• Validate data through tests, reconciliation against source, and documentation of evidence.
• Engineer robust infrastructure as code and automated checks aligned with enterprise IT standards.
• Collaborate with ML engineers to prepare feature-ready and model-ready datasets for GenAI workloads.
• Participate in GitHub-based development, CI/CD pipelines, and code reviews.
• Drive continuous improvement by aligning data products with evolving stakeholder needs.
