Job summary

Planet DDS seeks a Senior Data Engineer IV to architect and lead the next-gen data and analytics platform. You will build AI-ready pipelines, enable real-time analytics, and partner with product, eng, and data science to ensure data quality and scalable delivery.

You will mentor engineers, champion new data technologies, and drive platform modernization while aligning with HIPAA and governance requirements. This role offers impactful work in a fast-growing dental tech leader.

Qualifications

• 8–11+ years of data engineering experience with senior responsibilities.
• Expert-level SQL and at least one programming language (Python, Scala, or Java).
• Deep experience building data pipelines with Spark, Airflow, dbt, or equivalent.
• Proven ability to design cloud-based data platforms (AWS/Azure/GCP) with data lake/warehouse solutions and AI/ML platforms.
• Strong understanding of data modeling, schema design, and performance optimization for large-scale datasets.
• Experience with real-time/streaming architectures (Kafka, Kinesis).
• Hands-on experience integrating AI/ML workflows into data platforms (vector stores, LLM-adjacent pipelines).
• Familiarity with AI tooling and using AI to accelerate engineering work and data modeling.
• Demonstrated ability to lead technical projects and influence architecture across teams.
• Experience with data governance and HIPAA familiarity.
• Excellent communication to translate complex concepts for non-technical stakeholders.
• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in CS/Engineering or equivalent experience.

Responsibilities

• Architect and build AI-ready data pipelines and ELT workflows with automation for real-time analytics and ML model serving.
• Lead design of a modern data platform for AI workloads including vector and feature stores.
• Partner with Product, Engineering, and Data Science to define data models and ensure quality delivery.
• Define and enforce data and software engineering best practices including version control, testing, and documentation.
• Mentor junior and mid-level data engineers to foster technical excellence.
• Evaluate and adopt new data technologies to drive modernization and efficiency.
• Collaborate with senior leadership to define long-term data strategy and roadmap.
• Lead cross-functional data initiatives from scoping to on-time delivery.
• Optimize data infrastructure for performance and cost efficiency at scale.
• Ensure data security, governance, and HIPAA compliance across the platform.
• Champion AI tooling adoption across the data team and AI-enabled development.
• Design and maintain data products for AI/ML models in production.
