Job summary

Switch is seeking a Senior Data Center Mechanical Engineer to join our team of engineers overseeing critical facilities. You will support and optimize power, water, and cooling systems across data centers, drive continuous improvement, and lead capital projects.

This role requires a PE preferred, strong knowledge of electrical and mechanical systems, and ability to interpret complex drawings. You’ll coordinate with Operations, Design Engineering, and Field teams to ensure reliability,

Qualifications

  • A Bachelor of Science in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering or higher with a PE preferred.
  • Understanding of electrical and mechanical systems used in data centers (feeders, transformers, generators, switchgear, UPS, power systems, ATS/STS, PDU, AHU, cooling towers, pumps, fire suppression).
  • Ability to interpret P&IDs, wiring diagrams, schematics, Operations sequences, submittals, and MEP drawings packages.
  • Strong MS Office skills (Outlook, Publisher, Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Understanding of data analysis methodologies, statistics, and business acumen.
  • Ability to analyze datasets and provide strategic leadership guidance.
  • Ability to work under pressure while being proactive, resourceful, and efficient.
  • Leadership skills to promote team development and Switch culture.
  • Strategic mindset balancing long-term vision with operational execution.

Responsibilities

  • Troubleshoot and perform RCA on equipment failures, including electrical critical systems.
  • Provide subject matter expertise to operational teams for issue resolution and critical equipment support.
  • Conduct availability, capacity, efficiency, and sustainability analyses for electrical systems in Switch data centers.
  • Monitor data center performance trends and contribute to continuous improvement and capital projects.
  • Develop innovative data center solutions and own design concepts for upgrades.
  • Provide performance feedback on Switch infrastructure solutions to Design Engineering.
  • Act as resident engineer for construction and retrofit projects.
  • Collaborate with Operations, Design Engineering, Field Engineering and EHS teams to uphold standards.
