Job summary

Black & Veatch Corporation is seeking a Senior Registered Mechanical Engineer specializing in HVAC and plumbing for data centers. The role focuses on designing and delivering HVAC/plumbing systems for HyperScale and colocation data centers, with emphasis on energy modeling, CFD analyses, and green building strategies.

You will lead design efforts, mentor junior staff, and coordinate across multidisciplinary teams while maintaining BV quality standards and contributing to business development

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Architectural Engineering.
• Professional Engineer (PE) license.
• Experience in Data Center/Mission Critical Design.
• Experience with construction support.
• Understanding of design differences in Hyperscale, edge and colocation data centers.
• Familiarity with Data Center tier rating systems.
• Strong knowledge in Autodesk Revit.
• Data Center airflow CFD modeling experience for internal and external evaluations.
• Computer generated HVAC cooling and heating loads and HVAC equipment sizing.
• HVAC system energy modeling and energy code.
• Understanding of LEED and green building initiatives.
• Technical submittal reviewing process and bid reviewing process for large-scale water and air cooled chiller plants.
• ICC/ASHRAE/ASPE/SMACNA standards.
• NFPA standards.
• Attention to detail and ability to manage competing priorities.
• Cadence Reality Data Center Design (Formerly 6Sigma Room).

Responsibilities

• Leads and provides directions on design guides, standards, systems, applicable engineering codes and BV policies.
• Responsible for ensuring compliance with BV quality program and provides guidance.
• Supports continuous improvement and change management efforts.
• Prepares complex engineering deliverables and calculations, manages budget, schedule, and quality; coordinates with internal/external teams.
• Mentors and delegates tasks to lower-level staff; reviews work; may lead production teams or multiple disciplines.
• Identifies client interests and drivers and communicates them to the project team; supports business development.
• Participates in career development and mentoring; supports learning initiatives.
• May handle administrative responsibilities like timesheets and expense reports.
