Job summary

Amentum is hiring a Lead Infrastructure Engineer for Fort Meade, MD. The role focuses on directing a small team to install and maintain physical IT infrastructure, cabling, and data center equipment across development, pre-production, and production environments.

Ideal candidates have extensive hands-on experience with servers, network gear, racks, and cabling, plus strong collaboration with UC and network engineers to meet stringent availability targets.

Qualifications

• Ten (10) years of experience deploying large IT projects on-site at communications facilities or data centers.
• Seven (7) years managing data center or other IT facility infrastructure as a manager or technical lead.
• Hands-on experience installing and troubleshooting servers, network equipment, racks, and cabling to match approved plans and codes.
• Experience developing and improving installation checklists, maintenance procedures, and equipment documentation.
• Proven experience implementing, improving, and managing operational processes.
• Willing to support non-standard hours, including on-call rotations and deployment surges.
• Current CompTIA Security+ CE certification; knowledge of structured cabling and fiber installation (INST1/INSTC/INSTF).
• Preferred: Agile Certified Practitioner (PMI-ACP).

Responsibilities

• Direct a 3-person team bridging technicians and cross-functional engineering, facilities, and network architects.
• Coordinate hands-on physical infrastructure installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting across environments.
• Collaborate with UC engineers and network architects to support site deployments from survey to handoff.
• Aim for five 9’s (99.999%) infrastructure availability at facilities.
• Set priorities for physical infrastructure support across all project phases.
• Install, rack, cable, and connect servers, storage, network, and UC equipment per designs.
• Prepare site surveys covering rack space, power, cooling, and cable paths.
• Document readiness gaps and coordinate resolution with Government managers and teams.
• Assist with BOMs, rack layouts, installation plans, and schedules.
• Create and maintain data center cable maps, port assignments, and as-built docs.
• Develop installation guides, checklists, and SOPs for setup and maintenance.
• Coordinate demand and preventive maintenance at partner sites.
• Perform Change and Configuration Management for assigned systems.
