Job summary

Amazon Data Services, Inc. in Sterling, VA is seeking a Data Center Chief Engineer to lead electrical, mechanical, and fire/life safety systems across the facility, ensuring peak efficiency and uptime for AWS infrastructure.

The role includes preventative maintenance, incident response, and collaboration with Engineering Operations Technicians and vendors while upholding safety standards and driving continuous improvement in performance and reliability.

Qualifications

• 3+ years of Microsoft Office products and applications experience.
• 3+ years of mission critical facilities experience including industrial electrical and mechanical systems.

Responsibilities

• Act as the primary escalation point for all facilities-related issues.
• Perform root cause analysis of equipment failures and troubleshoot facility within SLAs.
• Provide training and guidance to Engineering Operations Technicians; work with Facility Manager to set team culture.
• Create and deploy new standard practices for Engineering Operations Technicians, Chief Engineers, and vendor support teams.
• May assist in building out new facilities and projects to improve facility efficiency.
• Work outside of normal hours for routine maintenance and respond to out-of-hours emergencies.
• Communicate complex technical information to a non-technical audience.
• Coordinate projects with IT managers to manage capacity and optimize safety, performance, and reliability.
• Ensure safety procedures are followed by vendors and staff.
• Establish building performance benchmarks, analyses, and reports on facility operations and maintenance.
• Utilize Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook, and other administrative tools.
