Job summary

The Hanover Insurance Group in Worcester, MA is seeking a Senior Data Analyst to use claims data to provide insight into business performance. Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or higher in a relevant technical field (math, finance, actuarial science, or analytics preferred).
• 4–6+ years of related analytical and property & casualty industry experience (actuarial, business analytics, or finance).
• Demonstrated problem‑solving skills and ability to perform exploratory data analysis.
• Expert knowledge of Excel and intermediate knowledge of SQL; ability to efficiently work with large and complex data sets.
• Comfortable turning raw data into meaningful information and summarizing complex business concepts into written and oral communications (including the use of PowerPoint).
• Comprehends key industry financial/operational metrics.
• Strong organization, project, and time‑management skills; ability to multi‑task and meet all deadlines with quality product.

Responsibilities

• Analyze claims data and effectively communicate conclusions in writing and verbally to internal partners (claims, actuarial, finance, state management, underwriting, etc.).
• Draw insights and observations from detailed and multifaceted claims data and reports, presenting findings to senior leaders.
• Respond to urgent or timely requests and produce routine and ad hoc information in a rapid and dynamic turnaround climate.
• Lead the development or enhancement of complex reports and tools for multiple lines of business.
• Quantify the impacts of internal operational changes and external trends on frequency, severity, and overall loss results.
• Develop industry knowledge and internal data expertise to provide solutions to complex business questions.
• Tune into external industry trends and best practices.
• Work in partnership with the team and management to generate innovative solutions, approaching problems with curiosity and open‑mindedness.
