Job summary

Sentara Health is seeking an experienced Senior Cybersecurity Engineer to join our Cybersecurity Engineering team, focusing on SSE, Zero Trust, and Zscaler technologies in a large enterprise environment. You will design, implement, optimize, and support security across network, cloud, identity, and endpoints while driving architecture-to-operations handoff.

The role requires hands-on leadership, deep troubleshooting, and collaboration with multiple teams and vendors.

Qualifications

• Hands-on cybersecurity engineering mindset with SSE/SASE, Zero Trust, or related enterprise security tech experience.
• Experience with Zscaler technologies including ZIA, ZPA, ZCC, ZDX, GRE/IPsec tunnels, SSL/TLS inspection, proxy/traffic forwarding, and policy troubleshooting.
• Strong networking/troubleshooting skills across TCP/IP, DNS, routing, firewalls, VPN, PKI/certificates, proxies, and application connectivity.
• Experience with enterprise identity and cloud technologies (Microsoft Entra ID/AD, SAML, OAuth/OIDC, MFA, CA, Azure or similar).
• Ability to lead complex security implementations from architecture/design through implementation and handoff.

Responsibilities

• Own complex technical issues with a methodical, evidence-based approach to root-cause analysis.
• Translate architecture into scalable technical solutions with clear risk and operational considerations.
• Lead cross-functional discussions across cybersecurity, network, cloud, identity, endpoint, and infrastructure teams.
• Communicate findings, risks, and recommendations to technical and non-technical stakeholders and vendors.
• Mentor engineers, promote knowledge sharing, and drive automation, reliability, and operational improvements.

Education

Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Cybersecurity, Information Technology, or a related field
