Job summary

MITRE’s Cyber Threat Intelligence department seeks a Principal Cyber Intelligence Engineer to advance research, lead projects, and collaborate across MITRE to shape capabilities for government and private sponsors. This role focuses on cutting-edge cyber threat analysis, tool evaluation, and program development to address national security challenges.

Qualifications

• Typically requires 10+ years of related experience with a Bachelor’s degree or 8+ years with a Master’s, or a PhD with 5+ years’ experience.
• Knowledge of adversary tradecraft and cyberspace operations as tools of statecraft.
• Experience with U.S. government cybersecurity agencies and intelligence connections.
• Strong leadership and communication to mentor teams and collaborate with diverse stakeholders.
• Demonstrated use of MITRE ATT&CK in operational environments and other analytic frameworks.
• Familiarity with all-source intelligence databases and analytic tools.
• Active Top Secret/SCI security clearance and U.S. citizenship requirements.
• On-site work requirement: minimum 4 days per week.

Responsibilities

• Apply cyber intelligence expertise to solve hard sponsor problems across defensive operations and critical infrastructure.
• Guide sponsors in integrating cyber intelligence into mission needs and security programs.
• Lead and advance cyber intelligence capabilities and programs across MITRE.
• Review sponsor tools and recommend best practices, analytics, and AI integration opportunities.
• Propose R&D to advance cyber intelligence state of the art and threat landscape understanding.
• Contribute to MITRE ATT&CK to help the cybersecurity community understand threats.
• Demonstrate expertise in intrusion, malware analysis, threat actor profiling, and campaign tracking.
• Evaluate CTI tools and platforms, including AI/ML, to improve collection, analysis and dissemination.
• Develop approaches linking CTI with threat hunting, detection engineering, and incident response.
