Job summary

Construction Material Testing seeks a Certified Welding Inspector II to provide acceptance/rejection authority on structural steel, pipe, and fabricated welds. You will inspect per AWS D1.1, D1.5, D1.8, ASME IX, or API 1104, witness welder tests, review WPS/PQR, and sign inspection reports relied on by engineers and officials.

You will alternate between fabrication shops and field sites, directing NDT, writing nonconformance reports, and ensuring compliance with project standards.

Qualifications

• Current AWS Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) with at least 2 years of field inspection experience.
• Proficient in AWS D1.1 and at least one of D1.5, D1.8, ASME IX, or API 1104.
• ICC structural steel and bolting inspector certification preferred (sponsorship available).
• Ability to defend rejections to fabricators with thorough documentation.

Responsibilities

• Perform and sign visual weld inspections with accept/reject authority.
• Review WPS and PQR and welder qualification records.
• Witness welder qualification tests and direct NDT as required.
• Write inspection and nonconformance reports for the engineer of record and building official.
