Job summary

Construction Material Testing is seeking a Certified Welding Inspector II with authority to accept/reject welds on structural steel, pipe, and fabricated assemblies, inspecting to AWS D1.1, D1.5, D1.8, ASME IX, or API 1104 as required.

Responsibilities include witnessing welder qualification tests, reviewing WPS and PQR, directing NDT, and signing inspection reports for the engineer of record and the building official.

Qualifications

• Current AWS CWI with 2+ years of inspection experience.
• Proficiency in AWS D1.1 and at least one of D1.5, D1.8, ASME IX, or API 1104.
• ICC structural steel and bolting certification preferred.
• Ability to defend a rejection with documentation and close the retest.

Responsibilities

• Perform and sign visual weld inspections with accept/reject authority to the governing code.
• Review WPS, PQR, and welder qualification records.
• Witness welder qualification tests.
• Direct and interpret nondestructive testing (NDT).
• Disposition indications and write repair instructions.
• Inspect fabrication shops and field erection, including high-strength bolting and base plate grouting where certified.
• Write inspection reports and nonconformance reports for the engineer of record and the building official.
