Job summary

Construction Material Testing is seeking a Certified Welding Inspector II who holds welding inspection authority for structural steel, pipe, and fabricated assemblies. You will inspect to AWS D1.1, D1.5, D1.8, ASME IX, or API 1104 as required, review WPS and PQR documents, and witness welder qualification tests.

You will direct NDT, write inspection reports and nonconformance records, and sign documents relied on by the engineer of record and the building official.

Qualifications

• AWS CWI required with 2+ years inspecting under it.
• Must have working command of AWS D1.1 and at least one of D1.5, D1.8, ASME IX, or API 1104.
• ICC structural steel and bolting certification preferred (sponsored if not held).
• Able to defend a rejection to a fabricator and document it for retest closure.

Responsibilities

• Perform and sign visual weld inspections with accept/reject authority per governing codes.
• Review WPS, PQR, and welder qualification records; witness qualification tests.
• Direct and interpret nondestructive testing; write reports and nonconformance documents.
• Inspect fabrication shops and field erection; write repair instructions.
• Sign inspection reports for engineer of record and building official.
