Job description

The Senior Custodian, under supervision, provides daily, general cleaning services in a variety of styles to Campus Buildings.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

1. Supervises a team of custodians.
2. Helps train and educate team members on approved procedures for all types of cleaning services.
3. Acts as Quality Control of service levels within their team areas.
4. Performs tasks to clean and maintain the general appearance of assigned buildings, including sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, shampooing, extracting, stripping, waxing, and burnishing floors.
5. Dusts, disinfects, washes, and cleans walls, windows, furniture, baseboards, offices, common areas, restrooms, kitchens, and meeting spaces.
6. Performs window cleaning, sweeping sidewalks, and building entrances.
7. Operates mechanical, electrical, and battery-operated machines to aid in custodial duties.
8. Gathers reports of broken or inoperable custodial equipment from team members to share with the Assistant Director of Custodial.
9. Moves equipment and furniture for proper cleaning; may require moving and lifting tables and chairs.
10. Opens and secures buildings daily.
11. Picks up supplies and delivers items as required.
12. Maintains inventory and equipment; orders janitorial supplies as needed.
13. Collects and disposes of trash following approved procedures and infection control plans.
14. Monitors and reports light bulb replacements.
15. Monitors and reports water leaks, property damage, and vandalism to the Assistant Director of Custodial.
16. Participates in on-call duties for evenings, weekends, and special events.
17. Participates in shift changes every quarter (morning & evening shifts).
18. Acts as a service responder during emergencies, weather, and catastrophic events.
19. Completes all tasks assigned by the supervisor.

Minimum Education and Experience

• High school graduation or GED.
• One year of related experience.

Knowledge and Skills

• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Knowledge of word processing, spreadsheet, and presentation software.
• Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others.
• Ability to communicate clearly and effectively to ensure understanding.

Preferred Requirements

• Supervisory experience.
