Job summary

SoFi is seeking a Staff Cryptography Engineer in New York to lead enterprise readiness for post-quantum cryptography and crypto‑agility. You will build a cryptographic inventory, partner with security, engineering, and product teams, and guide migrations to quantum-resistant solutions.

You will define standards, assess cryptographic risks, and drive cross-functional initiatives across cloud and on‑prem environments. Strong communication and leadership are essential.

Qualifications

• 8+ years in security engineering or related technical discipline.
• Experience with post-quantum cryptography or crypto-migration planning.
• Hands-on cryptography expertise and secure protocol design.
• Experience reviewing cryptographic controls in production environments.
• Strong understanding of public cloud cryptographic implementations.
• Ability to define cryptographic standards and roadmaps.
• Excellent communication to technical and non-technical stakeholders.
• Self-driven with ability to manage cross-functional work.
• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent practical experience.

Responsibilities

• Lead efforts to improve enterprise cryptographic posture focusing on post-quantum preparedness and crypto-agility.
• Build and maintain an inventory of cryptographic assets and dependencies across services.
• Collaborate with product, engineering, and security teams to plan migrations and risk remediation.
• Provide guidance on SSL/TLS, PKI, certificates, key management, and secure protocols.
• Define cryptographic standards, patterns, and implementation guidance for teams.
• Assess risks such as quantum migration, algorithm deprecation, and certificate lifecycles.
• Review architecture designs to identify cryptographic risks and propose secure alternatives.
• Translate complex concepts into actionable roadmaps for stakeholders.
• Drive cross-functional execution with clear ownership and milestones.
• Support threat modeling, architecture reviews, and control validation activities.
• Stay current with post-quantum cryptography developments and translate into plans.
