Job summary

City of Sioux Falls seeks a Senior Accountant/CPA to support citywide accounting and grant administration. The role emphasizes complex reconciliations, financial reporting, and compliance with GAAP and federal grant requirements.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, economics, or business administration with at least 3 years of accounting experience.
• CPA designation is mandatory for the C43 level position.

Responsibilities

• Perform complex and routine accounting and financial activities across AR, AP, grants, cash receipts, assets, inventory, and debt.
• Maintain general and subsidiary ledgers per GAAP; prepare journal entries and ensure proper accounting treatment.
• Oversee and complete detailed reconciliations between systems and external sources.
• Ensure compliance with accounting, budget, and applicable laws; audit documents and entries; advise on controls.
• Compile and interpret financial and budgetary reports for annual budget, CAFR, and audit processes.
• Support computer-based accounting applications; test system modifications; train users.
• Assist departments on financial and grant management, including DBE and federal requirements; provide decision-support data.
• Lead special projects and represent Finance in meetings to provide financial information.
• Perform other duties as outlined in the position description.
