Job summary

The South Dakota Department of Health – Division of Finance & Operations is seeking an Accountant for high-level fiscal duties, contracts and grants management, and accounts receivable oversight in Pierre (preferred) or at other listed cities. The role emphasizes accountability and compliance to federal guidelines and program requirements.

The ideal candidate holds a Bachelor's degree in Business/Accounting/Finance/Economics or 5+ years of related experience, with strong GAAP knowledge and Excel

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Business, Accounting, Finance, or Economics with accounting courses, or 5+ years related accounting experience.
• Knowledge of GAAP, standards, and practices in the public sector.
• Experience with federal grant guidance and grant administration.
• Proficiency in Excel, Word, and data analysis.
• Familiarity with subrecipient monitoring and contract management.

Responsibilities

• Manage high level fiscal responsibilities including contracts and RFPs.
• Prepare, process, and track accounts receivable; manage federal draws for 50+ grants.
• Complete complex account reconciliations and provide technical assistance on financial requirements.
• Assist with financial grant monitoring, applications, spending projections, and budget vs spending.
• Lead subrecipient monitoring and ensure compliance with federal guidelines.
