Job summary

City of Minneapolis is seeking a professional-level Accountant to support accounting and financial reporting functions for city operations. This role includes grants accounting, GL accuracy, and month-end close with a hybrid work arrangement allowing some days remote.

Minimum education is a Bachelor’s in Accounting/Business/Finance or closely related field; no formal experience required, with 6 months to 1 year preferred. Knowledge of public finance and government accounting is essential.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Business Administration, Finance or a closely related field.
• Equivalency may be considered with related experience.
• No specific license required.
• 6 months to 1 year of basic accounting experience desirable.

Responsibilities

• Perform accounting functions for grants, accounts receivable/payable, deposits, operating and capital projects.
• Prepare journal entries and reconcile general ledger; assist with trial balance and month-end close.
• Produce month-end financial and statistical reports with detailed analysis and summaries.
• Ensure accuracy and timeliness of financial data entries in the financial system.
• Analyze bank accounts and investments; record transfers to maintain correct balances.
• Assist with budget submittals and annual budget preparation.
• Manage fund appropriations, revenues, expenses and project reporting for fund availability.
• Develop and maintain cost accounting for project costs and billing purposes.
• Research and analyze accounting issues and support internal/external audits.
