Job summary

Ameriprise Financial Services LLC, headquartered in Minneapolis, Minnesota, seeks a Senior Counsel to join the GCO Advice and Wealth Management Practice Group, supporting Retail Advisory services including managed accounts, financial planning, and portfolio management.

The role delivers practical, risk-based legal guidance to enable business growth while maintaining regulatory compliance and governance across advisory platforms. JD, 5+ years, and MN/NC admission are required.

Qualifications

• Juris Doctor degree from an accredited law school.
• Strong expertise in Investment Adviser's Act of 1940 and applicable regulations (Reg BI, FINRA).
• 5+ years of experience as a practicing attorney supporting retail advisory offerings in financial services.
• Ability to influence, gain credibility and develop strong working relationships with business partners.
• Knowledge of regulatory trends and practical risk-based legal advice.
• Excellent communication, relationship-management, and collaboration skills.
• Admitted to practice in Minnesota, North Carolina, or eligible for in-house counsel.

Responsibilities

• Serve as a trusted legal partner supporting managed accounts, financial planning, investment research, portfolio management, and related advisory solutions.
• Advise business partners on legal, regulatory, and strategic matters affecting advisory products, services, platforms, client offerings, and business initiatives.
• Support development, governance of advisory programs, disclosures, agreements, and client-facing materials.
• Partner with Compliance, Risk, and other stakeholders to promote governance and a culture of compliance.
• Provide guidance on emerging legal, regulatory, and industry developments affecting retail advisory businesses, including legal research and benchmarking industry practices.
• Support regulatory examinations, inquiries, and interactions with regulators, outside counsel, and industry organizations.
