Job summary

Ameriprise Financial Services LLC is seeking an experienced licensed attorney to join the GCO Advice and Wealth Management Practice Group in Minneapolis. The role provides risk-based legal counsel supporting managed accounts, financial planning, and portfolio management initiatives.

The candidate should have 5+ years of experience in financial services, strong regulatory knowledge (Investment Advisers Act, SEC/FINRA), and the ability to collaborate across Compliance, Risk, and business partners.

Qualifications

• Juris Doctor degree from an accredited law school.
• 5+ years of experience supporting retail advice offerings in the financial services industry.
• In-house counsel experience and ability to advise on regulatory requirements.
• Admitted to practice in Minnesota or eligible for in-house counsel status.
• Excellent communication, relationship management, and collaboration skills.

Responsibilities

• Serve as a trusted legal partner supporting managed accounts, financial planning, investment research, portfolio management, and related advisory solutions.
• Advise business partners on legal, regulatory, and strategic matters affecting advisory products, services, platforms, client offerings, and business initiatives.
• Support governance of advisory programs, disclosures, agreements, and client-facing materials while helping identify and mitigate legal and regulatory risks.
• Partner with Compliance, Risk, and other key stakeholders to promote effective governance and risk-management practices.
• Provide guidance regarding emerging legal, regulatory, and industry developments affecting retail advisory businesses, including legal research and benchmarking.
• Support regulatory examinations, inquiries, and interactions with regulators and outside counsel as appropriate
