Cor Partners, the parent company of four specialty businesses, seeks a mid-level attorney for In-House Counsel – Professional Liability & Litigation. You will partner with business and operational leaders to manage litigation, oversee subpoena responses, and coordinate with outside counsel across the enterprise.

The role emphasizes governance, consistency, and risk mitigation, with responsibilities in regulatory compliance, contract review, and advising on legal matters affecting the enterprise.

Qualifications

• JD from an accredited law school and active bar membership required.
• 10+ years in insurance services with focus on professional liability, litigation management, and collaboration with outside counsel.
• Hands-on experience with subpoenas, document requests, and complex productions; contract lifecycle management.

Responsibilities

• Own and oversee active and pending litigation, coordinating with outside counsel, carrier partner counsel, and internal stakeholders to drive strategic outcomes.
• Prepare and defend our experts for depositions and attend mediations.
• Respond to subpoenas, regulatory inquiries, and document/file requests, determining appropriate scope of production while safeguarding privileged information.
• Partner with internal teams to identify, collect, and review documents for accuracy, completeness, and compliance.
• Provide proactive legal guidance on professional liability exposures and risk strategies tied to business operations.
• Advise leadership on legal, regulatory, and operational matters affecting the enterprise.
• Manage occasional trademark matters.
• Review, draft, and negotiate commercial contracts across business lines; support enterprise-wide processes and training.

The Opportunity

We are seeking a mid-level attorney to provide legal partnership to our four sister companies across professional liability, litigation management, and risk mitigation. You will serve as the primary legal advisor to business and operational leaders, managing litigation, leading subpoena management, and response, managing external counsel, and ensuring alignment of process and practice across businesses. As we centralize legal partnership and support—transitioning from a decentralized, external model—this role will be pivotal in driving more consistency across the enterprise while also providing a governance and oversight function.

Your expertise will directly impact business continuity, risk management, and market reputation and relationships, while your collaborative, solutions-oriented approach will empower our teams to move efficiently through complex legal matters.

Key Responsibilities

Litigation & Dispute Resolution

• Own and oversee active and pending litigation, coordinating with outside counsel, carrier partner counsel, and internal stakeholders to drive strategic outcomes.

• Review, draft, and provide input on negotiation of commercial contracts (client, vendor, and service agreements) across business and functional areas.

What You Bring

Education & Licensing

• Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school
• Active bar membership in good standing
  
  
  

Experience

• :10+ years in insurance services, claims handling, TPA, and/or expert services, with a focus on:
• Professional liability
• Insurance defense
• Litigation management
• Collaboration with outside counsel, carriers, and intermediary legal partners
• Hands-on experience with subpoenas, document requests, and complex productions
• Contract lifecycle management: drafting, reviewing, and negotiating commercial agreements.

The pay range for this position in Illinois is $200,000 to 275,000 annually; however, base pay offered may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience, as permitted under the Illinois Equal Pay Act. A sign-on bonus may be provided as part of the compensation package, in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits, dependent on the position offered. This information is provided in accordance with the Illinois Equal Pay Act, as amended by the Equal Pay Registration Act and the pay transparency requirements effective January 1, 2025.
