Zusammenfassung

The Chicago Housing Authority (CHA) is seeking a Counsel to protect CHA’s legal interests by representing CHA in state and federal courts and in administrative hearings, and to advise client departments on CHA policies and housing-related regulations.

The role includes leading litigation, supervising attorneys and staff, training interns, evaluating disputes, and assisting the Deputy General Counsel across matters including the HCV program.

Qualifikationen

• This position requires a Juris Doctor degree, admission to the Illinois bar in good standing, and admission to federal courts.
• Ten or more years of litigation experience with briefs, motions, and oral advocacy; growth mindset to learn new areas like HCV litigation.
• Integrity, strong work ethic, sound judgment, and ability to collaborate with diverse client departments.

Aufgaben

• Handling all aspects of litigation and serving as lead and trial counsel in state and federal court and in administrative forums.
• Supervising attorneys and non-attorney personnel in HCV hearings and litigation, including training and review of work product.
• Evaluating disputes in pre-litigation to determine appropriate actionable paths for favorable resolution.
• Providing research, analysis, and counsel on federal/state law, housing regs, CHA policies, and ordinances.
• Advising client departments on achieving goals in compliance with policies, rules, and law.
• Assisting the Deputy General Counsel in managing matters and litigation, including supervision and guidance.
• Preparing required reports and performing related duties to support CHA and departments.
• Participating in ongoing duties and providing support as needed to meet CHA needs.
