Job summary

The Chicago Housing Authority seeks an experienced Counsel to protect CHA's legal interests and lead litigation across state and federal courts and administrative forums. You will advise client departments and supervise the legal team, with a focus on HCV-related matters and related litigation, fair housing, and commercial disputes.

The role requires a JD, Illinois bar admission, and at least ten years of litigation experience, plus strong writing and advocacy skills.

Qualifications

• Juris Doctor degree and admission to the Illinois bar in good standing.
• Minimum of ten years of litigation experience including briefs and motions.
• Ability to advise departments and manage legal matters related to HCV.

Responsibilities

• Handle all aspects of litigation as lead and trial counsel in state/federal courts and administrative forums.
• Supervise attorneys and non-attorney staff; training and review of work products; co-supervise internship program.
• Evaluate disputes pre-litigation and advise on appropriate action.
• Provide research and counsel on federal/state law, housing regulations, CHA policies, and ordinances.
• Advise departments to meet goals in compliance with policies and law.
• Assist Deputy General Counsel in managing HCV matters and litigation; supervise and guide staff.
• Perform additional duties to meet CHA and department needs.
