Job summary

MWRA in Winthrop, MA seeks an experienced attorney to provide legal advice, counsel and representation on workers' compensation matters and employee benefits. The role supports HR, risk management, safety, and outside counsel to manage claims, settlements and compliance.

The successful candidate will have a Juris Doctorate, at least seven years of relevant experience before the Department of Industrial Accidents, MA bar admission, and a valid Class D license.

Qualifications

• Juris Doctorate from an accredited law school.
• A minimum of 7 years of legal experience involving workers' compensation and employment laws, including representation before the Department of Industrial Accidents.
• Knowledge of state and federal employee leave and benefits laws (FMLA, PFMLA, ADA, parental leave, earned sick time, etc.).
• Bar admission in good standing to practice in Massachusetts (state and federal courts).
• Valid Class D Motor Vehicle Operator's license.

Responsibilities

• Provides legal analysis, counsel and support concerning workers' compensation matters, including claims management.
• Represents the Authority before the Department of Industrial Accidents and in court.
• Collaborates with Human Resources, Risk Management and outside counsel on claims and compliance.
• Negotiates settlements, tracks liens, and assists with case management and return-to-work processes.
• Drafts and reviews policies, procedures, and communications related to employment and labor matters.
