Job summary

Gridmatic Inc. is seeking its first internal legal counsel to lead the development of commercial legal functions. This role reports to the Chief Commercial Officer and offers ownership to build from scratch, drafting, negotiating, and setting up processes for scaling safely.

You will draft and negotiate energy agreements, manage outside counsel, and align legal strategy with fast-paced commercial goals, with remote work and hybrid/in-office options in Houston, Cupertino or San Francisco.

Qualifications

• Active license to practice law.
• 4–10 years of legal experience in energy contracting.
• Ability to operate without an existing playbook and communicate proactively.

Responsibilities

• Draft, review, and negotiate core energy agreements including renewable and storage power purchase and tolling agreements.
• Manage relationships with outside counsel.
• Negotiate trading frameworks including ISDAs and EEIs.
• Structure and negotiate retail electric power customer contracts.
• Establish and standardize legal policies, processes, templates, and workflows for a fast-paced environment.
• Collaborate closely with commercial teams to align legal strategy with company goals.
