Gridmatic in Houston, Texas seeks its first internal legal counsel to own the commercial legal function, reporting to the CCO. You will draft, negotiate, and implement core energy contracts and establish scalable legal processes for rapid growth.

This autonomous role requires strong communication and a proactive mindset, with experience in energy contracting and the ability to operate without a playbook. Remote work is possible, with Texas-based operations.

Qualifications

• Active license to practice law in at least one state.
• 4 to 10 years of legal experience in energy contracting or related field.
• Experience drafting, negotiating, and structuring commercial agreements.
• Ability to work autonomously in a startup environment.

Responsibilities

• Draft, review, and negotiate core energy agreements (PPA, tolling, ISDA/EEI).
• Set up legal policies, templates, and workflows for rapid scaling.
• Manage external counsel relationships and budgets.
• Align legal strategy with business goals across commercial teams.
• Support retail electricity customer contracting.
• Create scalable processes with strong communication.
