Job summary

The Travelers Indemnity Company is seeking a Senior Counsel to independently handle a caseload of higher exposure insurance defense matters, including major and complex litigation, through trial and appellate work. You will deliver optimal results for insured clients and mentor less experienced attorneys as part of a collaborative, local-focused team.

Qualifications

• 7+ years of insurance defense litigation experience.
• Strong aptitude for trying cases to a jury with a track record of favorable outcomes.
• Strong technical knowledge and the ability to explain complex matters to diverse audiences.
• Advanced oral and written advocacy skills with a history of success on summary judgment or appeals.
• In-depth knowledge of local bench, bar and jurisdictional practices.
• Collaborative mindset with colleagues, customers and business partners to deliver service.
• Leadership through mentoring and influencing skills.
• Sound decision making with strong negotiation skills.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities with urgency and accuracy.
• Flexible and agile mindset to take on evolving challenges.

Responsibilities

• Handle a caseload of high-exposure cases and most complex litigation matters.
• Leverage trial experience to try cases to verdict or negotiate resolutions.
• Conduct advanced legal research and produce persuasive writing and presentations.
• Draft substantive pleadings, motions, briefs, discovery and related documents.
• Attend court events, depositions and other proceedings independently.
• Provide in-depth case analysis and recommendations to insured clients and partners.
• Collaborate with expert witnesses and consultants to develop strategies and testimony.
• Build and maintain relationships with clients and business partners.
• Provide internal training and legal updates to insured clients and partners.
• Mentor junior attorneys and support staff and initiate special projects.
