Job summary

Fortegra in Jacksonville, FL seeks a Liability Coverage Counsel to serve as a key legal and technical resource within the Claims division, guiding complex insurance coverage matters across commercial liability claims.

Reporting to the Chief Claims Officer, you will partner with claims, underwriting, product, and other internal stakeholders to evaluate coverage, interpret policy language, manage coverage disputes, and support high-exposure resolutions and litigated claims.

Qualifications

• JD from an accredited law school.
• Active license and good standing with at least one U.S. state bar.
• 7–10 years of relevant legal experience involving insurance coverage, complex liability claims, or coverage litigation.
• Experience with Commercial General Liability, Excess/Umbrella Liability, Commercial Auto Liability, or Professional Liability coverage.
• Prior litigation experience with outside counsel; case strategy, discovery, depositions, and negotiations.

Responsibilities

• Provide legal guidance on complex coverage matters arising from commercial liability claims.
• Review and interpret policies, endorsements, and underwriting materials to assess coverage obligations.
• Prepare and review letters and other coverage-related correspondence.
• Advise on coverage strategy, claim handling, and litigation exposure.
• Select and manage outside coverage counsel and oversee budgets and case outcomes.
