Job summary

Jobtailor in the United States seeks an experienced insurance defense attorney to manage high-exposure litigation matters and try cases to verdict. You will conduct advanced legal research, draft pleadings, and negotiate resolutions with strong advocacy skills.

You will mentor junior attorneys and staff, collaborate with experts, and guide case strategy for insured clients and partners while traveling as needed.

Qualifications

• 7+ years of insurance defense litigation experience.
• Juris Doctorate or equivalent international legal degree.
• Active license to practice law in the state(s) where representation is required.
• Proven experience litigating jury trials and achieving successful courtroom outcomes.
• Advanced oral and written advocacy skills.
• In-depth knowledge of the bench, bar, local jurisdictional practices, and adversaries.
• Advanced negotiation skills and sound decision-making.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities with attention to detail, urgency, and responsiveness.
• Ability to handle hearings, trials, dispositive motion arguments, depositions, and other court proceedings.
• Valid driver’s license required depending on location.

Responsibilities

• Independently handle a caseload of higher-exposure cases and complex litigation matters
• Try cases to verdict or negotiate resolutions using litigation skills and techniques
• Conduct advanced legal research and prepare persuasive legal writing and presentations
• Draft pleadings, motions, briefs, discovery, and other substantive legal documents
• Attend court events, depositions, and other appointments independently
• Provide substantive case analysis and handling-strategy recommendations to insured clients and Claim partners
• Collaborate with expert witnesses and consultants on case strategies, technical matters, and litigation testimony
• Manage internal and external client and business-partner relationships
• Provide training, seminars, and legal updates to insured clients and Claim partners
• Mentor attorneys and legal support staff
• Initiate special projects and support office goals and business needs
• Use technology, case management systems, and automation effectively
• Travel as required to meet business needs
• Perform other duties as assigned

Requirements

• Juris Doctorate or equivalent international legal degree
• Graduate of an accredited law school
• Active license in good standing to practice law in the state(s) where representation is required
• Proven experience litigating jury trials and achieving successful courtroom outcomes
• Strong technical knowledge in relevant practice areas
• Advanced oral and written advocacy skills
• Demonstrated summary judgment and/or appellate success
• In-depth knowledge of the bench, bar, local jurisdictional practices, and adversaries
• Advanced negotiation skills and sound decision-making
• Ability to manage multiple priorities with attention to detail, urgency, and responsiveness
• Ability to handle hearings, trials, dispositive motion arguments, depositions, and other court proceedings
• Ability to transport to required meetings and proceedings
• Valid driver's license required depending on location
