Qualifications

• Must be certified by the SCDC training academy and complete the basic supervisory course within six months of entry.

Responsibilities

• Assist in instructing and directing officers in a discipline program under the Shift Lieutenant.
• Oversee housing unit security staff and custody of inmates.
• Inspect living areas for security, safety, and sanitation compliance.
• Investigate misconduct by inmates or security personnel.
• Assist with formal and informal inmate counts.
• Supervise performance and appearance of security personnel.
• Counsel and recommend disciplinary action; train subordinate staff and prepare reports.
• Fill in duties of Lieutenant when necessary.
