Job summary

West Virginia Division of Corrections and Rehabilitation seeks a Sergeant-Correctional Officer to provide mid-level supervision within a facility, ensuring safety and security for inmates, staff, and the public. The role includes conducting roll calls, supervising searches, and coordinating inmate counts while enforcing policy and procedures.

Applicants must meet training requirements and complete the Academy.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Substitution: college coursework in corrections or related field may substitute for experience.

Responsibilities

• Supervise subordinates and assign duties; conduct roll calls and communicate information across shifts.
• Initiate and supervise searches of the facility, inmates, and visitors; perform inmate counts and location/status checks.
• Ensure security of inmates and staff, comply with policy and procedures, and manage shift changes.
