Job summary

South Carolina Department of Corrections is seeking a security supervisor to oversee security, custody, and control of inmates in assigned units and ensure safety and OSHA standards are maintained. The role requires eight weeks of basic training upon hire and independent coordination of staff under supervision.

Applicants must have a high school diploma and relevant experience; a related degree may substitute for part of the experience.

Qualifications

• A high school diploma and relevant experience are required.
• A bachelor’s degree may substitute for some experience.
• Must be certified by the SCDC Training Academy and complete the basic supervisory course within six months.

Responsibilities

• Under supervision, plans, coordinates and directs security staff and oversees inmate custody.
• Oversees security of buildings and public property and conducts routine unit checks.
• Assist with inmate counts and investigate complaints or violations; arbitrate disputes.
