Job summary

Global Payments is seeking a senior legal leader to shape strategy and manage cross‑functional legal needs across the business. You will shape complex agreements, advise on regulatory matters, and guide teams to balance growth with risk.

With a JD and 8+ years of experience, you will influence product strategy, oversee government and data‑privacy compliance, and mentor a growing legal group across product, sales, and operations.

Qualifications

• Juris Doctor degree and licensure to practice law.
• 8+ years of professional experience, including 5–6 years in management.
• Strong transactional legal experience leading agreements and negotiations.
• Experience in financial services or payments with regulatory understanding.

What you'll own

• Shape strategic legal advice that enables business growth, strengthens decision-making and addresses the company’s legal and commercial needs.
• Lead complex agreements and negotiations with clients, partners and vendors, creating outcomes that protect the business while enabling strong commercial relationships.
• Influence new products and services by identifying legal and regulatory requirements early, helping teams build readiness into the path to market.
• Drive effective risk management across areas including government and regulatory compliance, data privacy, intellectual property and contractual commitments.
• Strengthen legal frameworks and agreements by keeping standard templates current with regulatory requirements, industry developments and identified risks.
• Build trusted partnerships across Global Payments by bringing clear, practical legal guidance to customer‑facing, operational and corporate teams.
• Lead legal work across multiple priorities and business areas, ensuring teams address legal needs effectively and make informed decisions that support the company’s strategy.
• Develop a high‑performing legal team by leading lawyers and support staff, setting clear expectations and creating an environment where people can grow, take ownership and deliver impact.

What you bring

• A Juris Doctor degree from an accredited law school, including all prerequisites required to gain and maintain licensure to practice law.
• 8 or more years of relevant professional experience, including at least 5 to 6 years in a managerial role.
• Strong transactional legal experience, with the ability to lead agreements, negotiations and commercial decisions.
• Experience in the financial services or payments industry, with an understanding of the regulatory and commercial environment.
• Proven business counseling and negotiation skills, with the confidence to influence decisions and translate complex legal matters into clear, practical advice.
• Strong client service and relationship‑building skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and build trust across teams.
• People leadership experience, including leading lawyers and support staff and creating the conditions for strong performance and growth.
• It's a bonus if you have
  • Experience within the payments, credit card processing or financial services industry.
  • A curious, innovative mindset, with the drive to identify better ways of working, adapt to change and create contract management solutions that strengthen the business.
