Job summary

Enfield Council is recruiting a Corporate Accountant for a hybrid role with an emphasis on strengthening financial reporting and controls across a large local authority. Reporting to the Deputy Chief Accountant, you will work on fixed assets, IFRS16 lease accounting, and supporting finance initiatives.

The role offers exposure to high-profile accounting areas, with flexible hybrid working, requiring attendance twice per month at the office and involvement in year-end processes.

Qualifications

• CCAB or CIMA qualified, or part-qualified with active progression towards qualification.
• Strong experience in financial accounting, particularly fixed asset accounting.
• Sound understanding of IFRS and financial reporting standards.
• Experience supporting financial year-end processes and account closures.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Advanced Excel skills and confidence working with complex financial data.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
• Local government finance experience is desirable but not essential.

Responsibilities

• Manage and support the Council’s fixed asset accounting function, a key and high-profile area of responsibility.
• Assist with the annual closure of accounts and strengthen financial controls and processes.
• Lead on IFRS16 lease accounting, ensuring robust governance and supporting documentation.
• Support the oversight of Property, Plant & Equipment (PPE) financial processes.
• Ensure compliance with IFRS requirements and the CIPFA Code of Practice.
• Provide financial advice, insight, and support to services across the Council.
• Identify opportunities to improve financial reporting, controls, and processes.
• Contribute to the development of best practice financial management across the organisation.
