JOB DESCRIPTION:
- We have a Sr. Automation Engineer position available in our Wilmington, MA office. This role requires demonstrated technical proficiency in implementing automation solutions with PLC, DCS, HMI, and SCADA platforms.
- The Senior Controls Engineer will interact directly with customers and lead a team of Wunderlich-Malec engineers in identifying requirements, developing specifications, and implementing/testing/commissioning automation solutions.
- This leadership role within the business unit demands strong problem-solving skills, project management capabilities, people skills, and an interest in creating partnerships. Success is measured by securing repeat business from new and existing customers.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Deliver innovative automation solutions and design standards, either independently or as a team leader. Develop control system architectures, select components, detail schematics, program controllers (PLC, DCS, RTU), and develop HMI/SCADA systems. Knowledge of programming languages like Ladder, Sequential Function Chart, Structured Text, VBA, .NET, and SQL is essential.
- Design, detail, and implement industrial networking systems using protocols such as Ethernet/IP, Profinet, and Modbus, including fiber, wired, and wireless systems.
- Manage projects up to $1M, including planning, budgeting, scheduling, and overseeing daily operations. Ensure project profitability and support team guidance.
- Act as a technical lead and mentor for engineers and technicians. May serve as Project Manager for smaller projects.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical/Control Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or Computer Science.
- Over 10 years of experience with expertise in PLC platforms (Siemens, Modicon), HMI/SCADA (iFIX, FactoryTalk View, Ignition), DCS (Emerson DeltaV, Rockwell PlantPAx), and related control hardware/software.
- Experience with electrical schematics, AutoCAD, and leading engineering teams. Familiarity with regulatory standards such as cGMP and 21 CFR Part 11 is preferred.
- Proven track record in managing automation projects in the Life Science industry, including all project phases from conception to commissioning.
- Strong knowledge of S88 Batch, GAMP5, validation methodologies, IT/OT networking, and automation protocols.
- Experience with relational databases (SQL, Oracle) and excellent communication skills. References from subordinates, peers, and managers are desirable.
TRAVEL:
- Willingness to travel up to 25%.
