Wunderlich-Malec Services: Controls Engineer Position

Wunderlich-Malec Services is a 100% employee-owned ESOP and one of the largest and most well-established (35+ years) engineering companies in the United States. We have a Controls Engineer position available in our Addison, IL office. This role involves controls engineering project requirements, including control system design, control panel design, PLC programming, instrumentation, check-out support, and start-up assistance.

Major Responsibilities

1. Design, develop, and implement control systems (logic software and hardware) to meet process system requirements.
2. Develop Sequence of Operation documents detailing control strategies for the processes.
3. Lead design reviews with customers for review and approval of design documents.
4. Perform system checkout and start-up at customer sites.
5. Develop final system documentation and provide training to customers.
6. Work on automation and control system integration projects across various industries, including manufacturing and water/wastewater.
7. Act as technical lead on projects, guiding lower-level engineers and technicians.

Minimum Requirements

Education: BS in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering preferred.

Experience:

• 3 to 10 years of experience in control systems, components, logic programming, instrumentation, controls design, and PLC systems (e.g., Allen Bradley, Modicon, Siemens).
• Experience with SCADA software such as FactoryTalk, VTScada, AVEVA.
• Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate effectively with team members, subcontractors, and clients.
• Ability to travel up to 35%.

Physical Demands and Working Environment

Physical demands include seeing, color perception, hearing, clear speech, manual dexterity, driving, lifting, climbing, and equipment mounting/dismounting, pushing, and pulling. The working environment encompasses standard office settings and diverse industrial environments, with frequent PC use, facsimile/copy machines, and phones.
