Job summary

Actalent in Birmingham, AL is seeking a Senior Controls Engineer to design, develop, and implement advanced control systems for high‑power electrical equipment and energy systems. This role spans hardware and software, including BOM ownership, PLC and CODESYS programming, and Linux‑based control environments.

You will lead controls initiatives, ensure manufacturability, and collaborate with mechanical, electrical, and manufacturing teams to deliver scalable solutions while mentoring junior

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or related field required.
• 7+ years of experience in industrial controls or power systems engineering.
• Proven PLC programming experience and CODESYS environments.
• Strong Linux-based control software development and integration.
• Ability to design, develop, and support BOMs and control panels.

Responsibilities

• Design and implement control systems for high‑power applications and create detailed design deliverables.
• Own BOMs, I/O lists, wiring diagrams, and panel layouts for production and field use.
• Develop control software across PLC, CODESYS, and Linux platforms.
• Integrate controls with inverters, drives, and power electronics and tune systems.
• Collaborate with mechanical, electrical, and manufacturing teams throughout design reviews.
• Support testing, FAT, commissioning, and field start‑ups; troubleshoot issues across domains.
