Job summary

SSR is seeking a Controls Engineer in Nashville to design, program, and commission industrial and municipal control systems. You will integrate PLCs, HMIs/SCADA, instrumentation, and variable-speed drives while coordinating across disciplines to keep projects on schedule and within budget.

The role requires a bachelor’s degree in an applicable field from an ABET-accredited college and five years of Automation and Control System Engineering experience; Rockwell, FactoryTalk, GE iFIX, and

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in an applicable field from an ABET accredited college with five years of experience in Automation and Control System Engineering.
EI preferred
Experience with multiple PLC systems (Rockwell Automation preferred)
Experience with multiple SCADA/HMI software packages (RA FactoryTalk, GE iFIX, and Schneider Wonderware preferred)
Experience with the specification and installation of variable speed drives
Experience with AutoCAD or other relevant design tools
Experience in food & beverage, chemical, petrochemical, and water/wastewater treatment preferred

Responsibilities

Assume responsibility for control systems work; uphold SSR quality and safety standards.
Design, install, and commission new control systems; execute modifications and upgrades; troubleshoot existing systems to restore performance.
Review historical/trend data and prepare clear written reports that explain findings and recommended actions.
Coordinate designs with other disciplines; define equipment needs and provide technical information for procedures.
Lead and document job-site visits to verify field conditions, take measurements, and observe installation progress.
Coordinate with authorities, utilities, and municipalities to incorporate code, health/safety, and quality requirements.
Develop man-hour budgets with the Project Manager; plan work and track progress against schedule and budget.
Assist with proactive QA/QC plans; perform reviews of drawings, control narratives, IO lists, and test plans before issue.
Interface with suppliers, contractors, and clients to refine scope and cost; support proposals and client presentations.
Participate in professional organizations to enhance SSR’s technical reputation; pursue continuous learning on codes and technology.
