Job summary

Automationtechies is seeking a Senior Controls Engineer in Lake City, MN with hybrid options. You will design, program, and commission PLC and HMI systems, lead projects from design through startup, and work closely with customers to ensure smooth field startups.

The role requires 5+ years of industrial control experience, a 2-year degree in a related field, and strong Studio 5000/Logix, HMI, VFD/servo, and AutoCAD Electrical skills.

Qualifications

• 5+ years designing and commissioning industrial control systems.
• Strong Studio 5000 / Logix PLC programming experience.
• HMI development experience.
• Hands-on VFD and servo/motion experience.
• AutoCAD Electrical proficiency.
• UL 508A knowledge or ability to learn it quickly.
• Willingness to travel up to 25% and work extended hours during commissioning.

Responsibilities

• Design, program, test, debug, and commission PLC and HMI systems
• Own projects from electrical design and panel layout through programming, startup, and customer handoff
• Lead field startups and troubleshoot systems independently
• Program and tune VFDs, servo systems, and multi-axis motion
• Develop electrical schematics using AutoCAD Electrical
• Apply UL 508A standards to control-panel design and construction
• Work directly with customers to troubleshoot systems and train operators
• Support project quoting, scoping, and estimating
• Collaborate with a small team of controls engineers, technicians, and customers
