Job summary

Calibre CPA Group seeks a seasoned Controller to oversee the financial operations of an International Labor Union. Based in Washington, DC, you will lead accounting for the union and affiliated entities, ensuring GAAP compliance and robust internal controls.

The ideal candidate has 8–10 years in nonprofit accounting, CPA, and extensive LM-2 and regulatory experience, with proficiency in ERP systems and advanced Excel. This on-site role offers competitive compensation and comprehensive benefits.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or business admin is required; CPA credential is required.
• 8–10 years of progressive accounting experience, 3–5 years in Controller/leadership within a large nonprofit.
• Extensive LM-2 preparation experience and strong understanding of LMRDA regulations.
• Labor union accounting experience and Taft-Hartley funds familiarity preferred.
• Proficiency with enterprise accounting software and strong Excel skills; experience upgrading financial systems a plus.
• Analytical, ethical, and collaborative leadership with strong communication abilities.

Responsibilities

• Oversee day-to-day accounting operations for the union and affiliated entities.
• Prepare GAAP-compliant monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements.
• Present financial analyses, variance reports, and cash-flow projections to senior leadership.
• Lead annual budgeting in coordination with department heads and monitor expenditures.
• Manage external audits and regulatory filings (DOL LM-2, IRS Form 990, PAC/FEC disclosures).
• Establish and enforce internal controls and modernize accounting systems and workflows.
