Job summary

The Apollo Theater Foundation, Inc. seeks a senior accounting leader to serve as Controller, directing month-end close, consolidated financial reporting, and the integrity of the general ledger. You will collaborate with the CFO and external auditors, ensuring accurate financial information and strong controls.

You will oversee budgeting, donor accounting, and compliance for nonprofit operations, with hands-on leadership of finance staff and cross-functional partnership across departments.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance required.
• 7+ years of progressive accounting experience.
• Proven supervisory experience managing accounting staff.
• Experience with consolidated financial statements and intercompany eliminations.
• Direct nonprofit accounting experience (fund accounting, Form 990).
• Audit coordination experience including PBC management.
• Lease accounting experience and compliance with standards.
• Hands-on experience with Blackbaud Financial Edge or similar nonprofit ERP.
• Strong Excel skills and complex reconciliation abilities.

Responsibilities

• Directly supervise the accounting staff and oversee AP/Accounting Clerk.
• Own monthly close, consolidated financial statements, and general ledger integrity.
• Coordinate with external auditors and tax advisors; ensure audit readiness.
• Provide budget-to-actual reporting with narrative to CFO for leadership review.
• Maintain internal controls and SOPs across finance processes.
• Support CFO with financial analysis and board reporting as needed.
