Job summary

Foundation for City College is seeking an Assistant Administrator – Controller to partner with the CFO and Executive Director in safeguarding and reporting funds across restricted, endowed, and operating accounts.

This senior role directs accounting operations, leads month-end and annual closes, coordinates audits and tax filings, and strengthens internal controls while guiding a skilled accounting team. Experience with GAAP and fund accounting, plus donor reporting, is highly valued.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field.
• Significant leadership experience in accounting, financial reporting, or controllership in higher education/nonprofit environments.
• Experience directing accounting staff and managing month-end/year-end close.
• Experience leading audits and tax reporting processes.
• Strong knowledge of GAAP, internal controls, financial statement prep, and fund accounting.
• Experience with restricted funds, endowments, investment accounting, and donor-related compliance.
• CPA designation preferred.
• Excellent analytical, organizational, written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Direct and oversee Foundation accounting operations including general ledger, AP, AR, monthly close, and reconciliations.
• Lead preparation and review of financial statements, schedules, analyses, and reports.
• Coordinate annual audit, tax filings, and donor-related reporting.
• Establish and monitor accounting policies, internal controls, and asset safeguarding.
• Direct accounting for investments, endowments, and related reconciliations.
• Collaborate with CFO on strategic planning and budgeting.
• Supervise, train, and evaluate accounting staff.
• Support donor agreements and fund structures reporting.

Education

Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Accounting/Finance/Business Administration
