Job summary

Nebraska Children’s Home Society is seeking a Controller to manage daily accounting operations, financial reporting, and audit coordination. The role ensures GAAP compliance, grant and donor fund accounting, and robust internal controls across the organization and its foundation.

The Controller will lead the budgeting process, prepare financial statements and variance analyses, and collaborate with the CFO to drive strategic financial decisions and reporting accuracy.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or related field.
• CPA or MBA (Accounting/Business) preferred.
• 7–10 years of progressive accounting experience, including financial reporting and close processes.
• 3–5 years of supervisory experience, or managing a contracted accounting service provider.
• Experience with nonprofit accounting, grants, and restricted funds; audit coordination.
• Experience with audits (financial, Single Audit) and external auditors.

Responsibilities

• Oversee day-to-day accounting operations and close processes.
• Prepare monthly financial statements, variance analyses, and supporting schedules.
• Coordinate annual financial audits, Single Audit, and grant audits.
• Monitor grant compliance and revenue recognition per GAAP and donor restrictions.
• Maintain foundation/organizational accounting for multiple entities.
• Lead budgeting processes and provide financial analyses for leadership.
• Ensure internal controls and accurate reporting across operations.
