Job summary

Nebraska Childrens Home Society is seeking a Controller to oversee daily accounting operations and financial reporting for the Society and its Foundation. The role reports to the CFO and leads the technical accounting function, ensuring GAAP compliance and audit readiness.

The Controller will manage month-end close, grant accounting, and budget collaboration, while coordinating audits and improving internal controls across entities.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or related field is required.
• CPA or MBA preferred.
• 7–10 years of progressive accounting experience including financial reporting.
• 3–5 years supervisory experience or managing contracted accounting services.
• Experience with nonprofit accounting, grant accounting, and GAAP/Uniform Guidance.
• Strong knowledge of GAAP and financial reporting standards.
• Advanced Excel skills and budgeting/forecasting ability.

Responsibilities

• Manage day-to-day accounting operations, including general ledger, AP/AR, and reconciliations.
• Prepare monthly financial statements and variance analyses for leadership.
• Coordinate annual financial audits and Single Audit activities.
• Maintain tracking of grants, contracts, and restricted funds.
• Oversee payroll accounting and cash flow forecasting.
• Coordinate Foundation accounting and joint Society/Foundation activities.
• Lead technical accounting initiatives and liaise with external auditors.
• Support budget development and financial analyses for programs.
