Job summary

SafeLease seeks a seasoned Controller to lead accounting, financial reporting, and internal controls across its MGA and surplus lines carrier. You will own US GAAP and SAP reporting, NAIC statements, and regulatory filings, reporting to the CEO.

The ideal candidate combines Big Four audit work with hands-on insurance finance leadership and a track record of scaling finance functions in a high-growth environment.

Qualifications

• Experience in an insurance carrier and MGA/E&S operations.
• SAP (NAIC) reporting and NAIC Annual/Quarterly statements.
• Big Four background with CPA designation.
• 7+ years of progressive accounting/finance experience.
• Deep knowledge of GAAP and SAP and bridging entries.
• Experience with consolidations and intercompany eliminations.

Responsibilities

• Oversee accounting operations across MGA and surplus lines carrier, GL, and close processes.
• Prepare GAAP and SAP financial statements and NAIC filings.
• Manage statutory reporting (NAIC Schedules F, P, D, RBC, IRIS) and audits.
• Lead MGA accounting under Model #225 and premium trust arrangements.
• Develop scalable internal controls and SOX-like processes.
• Lead external audits and coordinate with tax advisors and regulators.
• Build and mentor a high-performing accounting team.
• Manage consolidated reporting and intercompany eliminations across entities.
• Provide financial insights and strategic analysis to CEO and leadership.
• Oversee premium and claims accounting, DAC, and loss reserve accounting.
• Direct cash management, treasury, and investments accounting (NAIC SVO portfolios).
• Ensure multi-jurisdiction tax compliance and filings.
• Evaluate and upgrade financial systems for scalability.
