Job description

Insurance Controller (Statutory and GAAP Accounting Leadership)
Little Rock, AR | FULL-TIME ONSITE | Relocation Assistance Provided

Harrison Group is working with a confidential client, a life and annuity carrier that's growing quickly through acquisition, to identify their next Controller. The organization is in expansion mode and needs a hands-on accounting leader who wants to build rather than maintain.

You'd be taking ownership of statutory and GAAP financial reporting for the company, with real influence over how the accounting function is shaped as the business scales. Expect a lot of exposure early: direct lines to the executive team, the actuarial side of the business, and the outside investment managers who handle the portfolio.

The Work
  • Own the monthly, quarterly, and annual close and reporting cycle
  • Manage NAIC statutory filings across multiple entities
  • Keep the company ahead of evolving statutory accounting requirements
  • Deliver GAAP and statutory reporting with real analysis behind it, not just numbers
  • Build out the internal controls and procedures the company will run on long term
  • Handle account reconciliations, journal entry oversight, and chart of accounts work
  • Help select and roll out accounting and reporting systems as the company modernizes
  • Manage relationships with auditors, reinsurance partners, actuaries, and regulators
  • Build and lead a small accounting team as headcount grows
  • Report directly to executive leadership
What We're Looking For
  • 6+ years of financial reporting experience inside an insurance company
  • At least 3 years with real ownership of statutory reporting work, not just supporting it
  • Currently an Assistant Controller or senior statutory accountant ready to lead, or a Controller looking for a true build opportunity
  • Solid grasp of the life, annuity, and A&H regulatory landscape
  • Comfortable with insurance-specific general ledger and statutory reporting tools
  • Some exposure to investment accounting through an outside investment manager is a plus
  • Confident communicator who can hold their own with executives, auditors, and regulators
  • Accounting or Finance degree required; insurance designations are a nice-to-have, not required

Competitive base plus incentive comp, full health/vision/dental, generous PTO, and a 401(k) match. This is a ground-floor opportunity with a real path to grow as the company does.
