Job summary

Agency Insurance Company seeks an experienced Assistant Controller to support the Controller in Maryland-based operations. This role ensures GAAP and SAP reporting accuracy, regulatory compliance, and continuous improvement across the accounting function.

You'll oversee month-end close, NAIC Annual Statement preparation, investment and reinsurance accounting, and mentor accounting staff in a collaborative, detail-oriented environment focused on timeliness and integrity.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or a related field; CPA preferred.
• 5+ years of progressive accounting experience, including 2 years in a senior accounting role.
• Solid knowledge of U.S. GAAP, financial reporting, and internal controls.
• Proven ability to manage and prioritize multiple deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills with exceptional attention to detail.
• Advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present financial information clearly to both financial and non-financial audiences.

Responsibilities

• Oversee month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close processes for GAAP and SAP.
• Prepare and reconcile financial statements, schedules, and analyses for GAAP and statutory filings.
• Lead or support NAIC Annual Statement preparation and related schedules.
• Manage investment accounting and reinsurance accounting, including reporting and disclosures.
• Oversee general ledger maintenance, reconciliations, and staff mentoring.
• Support internal/external audits and strengthen internal controls.
