Job summary

Arran Bridge in Portland, Maine, is seeking a Controller to lead accounting, financial reporting, budgeting, and forecasting. You will supervise the Bookkeeper/Finance Manager and partner with the President to guide pricing, spending, and growth while improving financial systems.

The role is in-person in Portland with a pathway toward a hybrid arrangement, and will involve close collaboration with leadership to optimize profitability and operational efficiency.

Qualifications

• Five or more years of progressive accounting/finance experience including close, reporting, budgeting, and forecasting.
• Experience supervising bookkeeping or accounting staff and reviewing their work.
• Strong working knowledge of GAAP.
• Hands-on experience with QuickBooks and strong Excel skills.
• Experience building financial models, cash flow forecasts, and profitability analyses.

Responsibilities

• Lead month-end and year-end close, including journal entries, reconciliations, and financial statements.
• Oversee accounts payable, accounts receivable, and payroll review with the Bookkeeper/Finance Manager.
• Manage cash flow, banking relationships, and provide regular financial updates to the President.
• Own annual budgets, rolling cash flow forecasts, and longer-term projections.
• Analyze budget variances and profitability across services, segments, and contracts.
• Build financial dashboards connecting operating performance with business results.
• Evaluate pricing, equipment purchases, leases, and other investments.
• Maintain internal controls and improve accounting processes and QuickBooks usage.
• Coordinate with outside accountants on tax preparation, year-end reporting, and fixed assets.
